TL;DR: Google has launched agentic AI shopping features including automated store calling for local inventory checks, automatic purchase of price-tracked items when they hit target prices, and conversational product search powered by 50 billion product listings.

Google has introduced substantial AI-driven shopping capabilities across Search and the Gemini app, positioning agentic technology as a solution to common holiday shopping frustrations. The updates leverage Google’s Shopping Graph and Duplex technology to automate traditionally time-consuming tasks.

Agentic Store Calling

The “Let Google Call” feature enables AI to phone local stores on behalf of shoppers searching for products “near me.” Users answer a few tailored questions, then Google’s AI calls nearby shops to check inventory, pricing, and promotions. Results arrive via email or text, supplemented with inventory data from the Shopping Graph.

Powered by upgraded Gemini models and Duplex technology, the system identifies optimal stores to contact and summarises conversations into actionable information. The feature launches today across toys, health and beauty, and electronics categories in the US, offering merchants a new channel for driving foot traffic.

Automated Purchase System

The agentic checkout feature builds on Google’s existing price-tracking functionality, but now completes purchases automatically when tracked items fall within user-defined budgets. Shoppers specify desired size, colour, and maximum spend, receiving notifications when conditions are met.

For eligible merchants, Google can execute purchases using Google Pay after user confirmation of final details. The system operates on Google’s payments infrastructure, with initial availability through Wayfair, Chewy, Quince, and select Shopify merchants, with expansion planned.

Conversational Search Integration

Google has upgraded shopping in AI Mode within Search, enabling natural-language product queries. The Shopping Graph—containing over 50 billion product listings with 2 billion updated hourly—powers responses formatted for specific needs, from visual inspiration grids to comparison tables incorporating review insights.

The Gemini app now provides similar shopping capabilities, allowing users to progress from ideation to browsing within a single chat interface, with access to product listings, pricing, and purchasing options.
