TL;DR: Google has launched major AI-powered travel features including Canvas for customised itinerary building, global expansion of Flight Deals to 200+ countries, and agentic booking capabilities for restaurants and events. Future updates will enable direct flight and hotel bookings through AI Mode.

Canvas Brings AI-Powered Itinerary Planning

Google has introduced Canvas in AI Mode, a new tool that allows users to build customised travel plans over time. Users can describe their trip requirements and receive a comprehensive plan combining real-time flight and hotel data from Search, location details and reviews from Google Maps, and information from across the web.

The Canvas side panel provides hotel comparisons based on pricing and amenities, alongside restaurant and activity suggestions optimised by travel time from accommodation. Users can refine plans through follow-up questions, exploring trade-offs such as proximity to different attractions. Plans persist in AI Mode history, allowing users to return and continue planning later.

Travel planning with Canvas is currently available on desktop in the United States for users opted into the AI Mode experiment through Labs.

Flight Deals Expands to 200+ Countries

Google is rolling out its AI-powered Flight Deals tool globally, following initial launches in the United States, Canada and India. The feature, integrated within Google Flights, targets flexible travellers seeking affordable destinations.

Users can describe travel preferences in natural language—“like you’re talking to a friend”—and the AI interprets requirements to display the best available bargains. The tool now supports more than 60 languages and has begun rolling out to over 200 countries and territories, including the UK, France, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, Japan and Korea.

Agentic Booking Simplifies Reservations

Google is expanding AI Mode’s agentic capabilities to handle restaurant reservations, event tickets, and beauty and wellness appointments. The system searches across multiple reservation platforms and websites to find real-time availability matching user criteria, then provides a curated list with direct booking links through partners including OpenTable, Resy, Tock, Ticketmaster, StubHub, SeatGeek, Booksy, Fresha and Vagaro.

Restaurant booking through agentic AI is rolling out this week in the United States without requiring Labs opt-in. Event ticket and local appointment booking remains available to US Labs users.

Future Integration with Travel Partners

Google plans to enable direct flight and hotel booking completion within AI Mode. The company is collaborating with industry partners including Booking.com, Choice Hotels International, Expedia, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts to develop an experience where users can compare options, review schedules, prices, photos, amenities and reviews, then complete bookings with their chosen partner.

The company emphasises commitment to partnering with travel companies of all sizes to provide comprehensive booking options.
